Campus Creek stabilization and road improvements beginning in early September

Submitted by Brett Robinson

Construction map

The Division of Facilities and the city of Manhattan are teaming up on an infrastructure project to improve pedestrian and public safety near the intersection of Campus Creek Road and North Manhattan Avenue. The project will realign Bertrand Street with Campus Creek Road at a single inlet/exit with a full signal and an additional turn lane.

The project will also address much-needed improvements to stabilizing the bank of Campus Creek for more robust stormwater management. In concert with this work, the university will be widening Bayberry Lane for two-way traffic.

Phase 1: September 2023 through December 2023

Beginning in early September, this phase will involve the widening of Bayberry Lane from Campus Creek Road to the A6 parking lot. During this part of the project, one lane will remain open to provide access to the A6 parking lot and the Bluemont loading dock. Controlled yielding will be used to direct traffic entering and exiting the A6 parking lot. Please allow extra time for commuting while using the A6 lot during this phase.

Phase 2: December 2023 through July 2024

Beginning in mid-to-late December, Campus Creek Road will be closed from Bayberry Lane to Manhattan Avenue. Access to A5 and A6 parking lots will be through Petticoat Lane to the newly widened Bayberry Lane. Petticoat Lane will become a two-way street during Phase 2 without parking on Petticoat Lane and Campus Creek Road. The city of Manhattan will be installing a new entrance/exit along Manhattan Avenue directly across from Bertrand Street. Creek stabilization and road improvements to Campus Creek Road will continue until July 2024.

The project is expected to be completed by July 2024. Updates for construction phasing will be posted in August prior to the start of the fall 2023 semester and throughout the duration of the project.
