Following an election this past spring semester, the natural resources and environmental sciences secondary major welcomes Jessica Fefer, horticulture and natural resources, and Katie Starzec, agricultural communications and journalism, to its governing board. Both faculty members started three-year terms that began in July and end in June 2025.

Board members have a unique opportunity to collaborate with colleagues having similar research interests and to positively shape the future of an already successful interdisciplinary program designed to help students make significant contributions to environmental science, sustainability, and stewardship of natural resources.

The natural resources and environmental sciences secondary major was approved by the Kansas Board of Regents in 1992 and was the first interdisciplinary program established at Kansas State University. Nearly 900 students from eight colleges and more than 40 primary majors have earned the secondary major and are using their expertise in a diverse array of career fields.
