Shappee and Zoller selected for 2020 Friend of K-State Global Campus award

Submitted by Grant Guggisberg

Lisa Shappee, library director for K-State Polytechnic, and Kirsten Zoller, director of professional education and outreach, also for K-State Polytechnic, are the recipients of the 2020 Friend of K-State Global Campus award. The Friend of Global Campus award is given to an individual or individuals who have significantly contributed to the advancement of K-State Global Campus programs or services.

Shappee and Zoller were both heavily involved with the creation of the Online Course Design Institute offered over the summer to support instructors as they transitioned courses to the online modality as part of the response to COVID-19. The institute was developed as a partnership between Global Campus, the Teaching and Learning Center, Division of Information Technology and the Polytechnic Campus, as well as other campus leaders. The institute replaced the K-State Online Essentials course, previously offered to Global Campus online instructors.

As an original creator of the materials for the K-State Online Essentials course, Shappee provided keen insight into faculty development needs. Her nomination shared, "Lisa's feedback is always oriented to faculty success with an emphasis on what's reasonable for faculty to accomplish and do given their other responsibilities. Her contributions have been so appreciated during a time of rapid response to COVID-19 faculty development needs."

Zoller contributed to development of Online Course Design Institute materials and was instrumental in managing institute registrations. Her nomination shared, "Kirsten's positive attitude and can-do approach to working with the Online Course Design Institute development team has been so appreciated during a time of rapid response to COVID-19 faculty development needs. Her detail-oriented approach to program design has also been a strong contribution to the planning team."

"The collaboration between several groups to bring together the Online Course Design Institute quickly and provide a needed resource for instructors new to online teaching was outstanding," said Karen Pedersen, dean of K-State Global Campus. "It is a pleasure to recognize Lisa and Kirsten for their extraordinary efforts toward developing this resource."
