Carroll, doctoral students present at counseling conference

Doris Wright Carroll, associate professor of special education, counseling and student affairs, and six of doctoral students in counselor education and supervision presented or participated in round table discussions at the Counseling Law and Ethics Conference Feb. 11-14 in New Orleans. 

Carroll presented a keynote address "Reaffirming Multicultural and Social Justice Competence: Strengthening Our Ethical Imperative in Counseling."  

The following doctoral students presented or participated at this national conference: 

  • Insoon Hoagland and Carroll co-presented "Ethical Issues: Spiritual and Religious Issues in Counseling." 
  • Fradon Truvelle Martin presented "Career Counseling Ethical and Diversity Issues for Army Soldiers and Family Members."
  • Susana Ortiz presented "Social Justice, Advocacy & Ethics in the Counseling Profession" and participated in the round table that addressed "Examining the Intersectionality of Ethical Codes and Best Practices Utilized for Group Counseling in K-12 Schools." 
  • Benjamin Wire, Sophia Leno and Geoffrey Iringo participated in the round table discussion titled "Influence of Counselor Personal Theoretical Orientation and Awareness of Client Needs on Informed Consent and Refusal."

Mary Guindon, teaching associate professor of special education, counseling and student affairs, attended the conference to support her advisees, Hoagland and Iringo. 

Judy Hughey, associate professor of special education, counseling and student affairs, attended the conference to support her doctoral students, Martina and Ortiz. 

Leno and Wire are advised by Ken Hughey, professor and chair of the department of special education, counseling and student affairs.
