Libraries announce return of 24/5 hours at Hale Library

Submitted by Darchelle Martin

The Dave and Ellie Everitt Learning Commons on the first floor of Hale Library will begin a 24/5 schedule on Nov. 3. During fall and spring semesters, Hale Library will open at 1 p.m. on Sundays and remain open until 6 p.m. on Fridays with additional Saturday hours.

The return of 24/5 hours comes as a result of the Libraries' ability to secure the Everitt Learning Commons from the rest of the building. Prior to the renovation of Hale Library, the first through fourth floors could not be individually closed.

"The modification reduces the cost of staffing overnight hours since there is only one floor to monitor," said Lori Goetsch, dean of Libraries. "This has been one of our highest priorities with the renovation of Hale Library. We know how important it is to students."

As the second through fifth floors open, the first floor Everitt Learning Commons will remain the location for 24/5 access. The second floor of Hale Library is scheduled to open during the spring 2020 semester. The entire renovation is scheduled to be complete by the end of 2020.

Updated hours for Hale Library and branch library locations can be found on the Libraries website. For an inside look at the renovation process subscribe to the Hale Library Blog.
