Benefits highlight: October is open enrollment for health insurance

Submitted by Human Capital Services

Oct. 1-31 is open enrollment for health insurance coverage changes effective Jan. 1, 2020.

In summer 2019, the Health Care Commission voted to decrease health insurance premiums by 6% for the coverage levels of employee plus spouse and employee plus family. Those enrolled in Plan C will have a decrease in their co-insurance from 20% to 10%. All other plans remain the same as 2019. Employees with employee only or employee plus children coverage will see premium rates hold steady for 2020. Slight increases in the dental and vision premiums remain consistent with 2019.

Non-Medicare eligible retirees will also have a premium reduction of 6% on retiree health coverage offered by the state.

These decisions by the Health Care Commission came on the heels of Gov. Laura Kelly's statement to all state of Kansas employees that she is committed to working on health insurance costs for state employees during her term.

To be able to choose the plan you desire for 2020, all benefit-eligible employees must enroll online during the month of October 2019. After submitting your enrollment be sure to save, submit and print the confirmation provided. It is extremely important to print your elections and keep them until you have verified your elections when you review your first check in January 2020.
