Johnson Cancer Research Center spring award applications due March 1

Submitted by Marcia Locke

Kansas State University's Johnson Cancer Research Center is now accepting applications for its spring semester awards.

The center supports the research and training of its affiliated faculty and their undergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral fellows through competitive award programs. All affiliated faculty are eligible to apply and sponsor applications of their students. Unaffiliated K-State faculty conducting cancer-relevant research are invited to become affiliates and apply for awards.

Innovative Research Awards provide faculty with seed money to gather preliminary data crucial for future major grant proposals. Other awards provide modest funds for travel to learn new scientific techniques or visit collaborators at other institutions.

This spring, the center is also offering funding to establish a Center of Excellence in cancer research. The Center of Excellence award is intended to support an integrated, multiproject research program that has a well-defined, central research focus on cancer. A letter of intent is due March 1.

Graduate students and post-doctoral fellows are eligible for Summer Research Stipends and Travel Awards to present at professional meetings. Applications must be submitted by center-affiliated faculty mentors.

Award information and online applications are available on the center's website at cancer.k-state.edu/awards/. The annual deadline for submission is March 1.

The Johnson Cancer Research Center’s awards are funded by private donations.
