KS-LSAMP Final poster session

The Kansas Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation, or KS-LSAMP, is looking for science, technology, engineering or math faculty members to participate in the 2019 Research Immersion: Pathways to STEM, or RiPS, summer program.

The eight-week summer research program will occur from May 28, 2019, to July 24, 2019. The program aims to provide a research experience for students enrolled at KS-LSAMP associated postsecondary institutions — Barton Community College, Donnelly College, Dodge City Community College, Garden City Community College and Seward County Community College — with a goal to increase engagement of underrepresented minority students in science, technology, engineering and math fields.

Students are paired with faculty mentors based on their stated interests. During the program, student participants are expected to commit 30-35 hours per week to their research experiences. This may include conducting experiments, collecting and analyzing data, library work or other research-related activities. The program culminates with students completing a research abstract and presenting a research poster for the K-State community.

Faculty mentors interested in participating should be available to work with students throughout the majority of the eight-week program. We encourage mentors to meet regularly with student participants during their research experience as well as be available for social gatherings that occur throughout the summer.

The program provides an immersive experience and aims to ease students' transition from their current postsecondary institutions to K-State by providing interactions among student participants, faculty members and various K-State resources throughout the summer. The KS-LSAMP program supports student participants by providing a stipend for their participation as well as providing lodging and meals during the eight-week program.

If you are interested in serving as a faculty mentor or if you have questions about the RiPS program, please contact Brenee King, KS-LSAMP project administrator at breneek@k-state.edu.

Additionally, you can view information about previous RiPS participants and mentors on the KS-LSAMP blog.
