Emergency drills scheduled at BRI for Aug. 20-22

Submitted by Tara Logan

The Biosecurity Research Institute will conduct emergency drills with the Manhattan Fire Department, Riley County Emergency Medical Services and the K-State Police Department on Aug. 20, 21 and 22. The BRI routinely works with local first responders to practice and update emergency plans.

This series of drills will involve evacuating an injured researcher from a laboratory. Full-scale drills are conducted in research areas that are closed and sanitized for annual maintenance and equipment re-validation. After each drill, BRI staff will meet with first responders to critique actions and implement, if necessary, improvements in emergency response plans.
