Environmental Health and Safety requests chemical disposal pick up requests

Submitted by Christina Aguilera

The K-State Department of Environmental Health and Safety will schedule a high-hazard chemical disposal contractor to come to K-State in late July to pick up chemicals that have strict transport and disposal requirements.

Submit a waste pickup request to Environmental Health and Safety for these chemicals by July 6.

This service requires a specialized team. To capitalize on this service and ensure the safety of our labs, please inspect your chemical inventories for peroxide formers that may be past their expiration date, have not been properly inhibited, or have formed peroxide crystals. Identify any other unstable materials or unwanted chemicals with the potential to become unstable.

Review the list of common peroxide formers and check your lab for these materials. The list is not exhaustive. Other chemicals may also require special disposal if they are not properly managed and documented, such as sodium azide.

If you have any questions please contact Shauna-Kay Walder, hazardous waste technician, at sgwalder@k-state.edu or call the main office at 785-532-5856.

Read additional information about peroxide formers.
