The University Advising Committee announces the fall semester round of funding for its annual professional development grant program. This fall only, the committee offers up to 20 awards for participation in the 41st NACADA Annual Conference, Oct. 11-14, in St. Louis, Missouri, as well as, per usual, up to five additional awards for any proposed professional development opportunity.

All university faculty and staff are eligible to apply. Awards are for up to $750. They support participation in professional and scholarly meetings related to academic advising.

The award committee — comprised of Stephanie Bannister, Leena Chakrabarti, Brad Cunningham and Naomi Wood — will make five awards in the spring 2018 semester as well.

To apply, please send a one-to-two page application to Steve Dandaneau, University Advising Committee co-chair, at dandaneau@k-state.edu, by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23. The committee will evaluate applications in a timely manner in order to facilitate applicants' participation in early fall semester meetings.

Applications should include a description of the advising-related professional development opportunity, the applicant's expected role, the benefits that the applicant expects to derive from participation, and a proposed budget. The applicant's supervisor should endorse the proposal and be copied on the submission email. Past recipients are eligible to apply, but new applicants are encouraged and will be given first consideration.

NACADA: The Global Community for Academic Advising, Annual Conference applicants should know that K-State will provide transportation to and from the meeting in St. Louis as well as entrée to the K-State conference social gathering hosted by NACADA executive director, Charlie Nutt, and Debbie Mercer, dean of the College of Education. Teams of advisors are encouraged to apply using a single application. Every effort will be made to accommodate groups as well as individuals from across the university.
