Jazz big band concert to feature 'Masterpieces of Jazz'

K-State Concert Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Lab A will be performing "Masterpieces of Jazz" at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Forum Hall. The concert is free to attend. The music of Stan Kenton, Duke Ellington, Buddy Rich, Woody Herman and Thad Jones will be featured.
The Concert Jazz Ensemble has selected six signature pieces from some of the most famous bands of the Big Band era. Included in the concert are: "Anitra's Dance," as played by the Duke Ellington Band, featuring soloists Brett Eichman on piano; Ike Hamm on alto saxophone and Brian Cain on clarinet; "Channel One Suite," as played by the Buddy Rich Band, featuring Austin Barnes on drum set, Brian Cain on tenor saxophone, Ike Hamm on alto saxophone and Brian Williams on trumpet; "23 Degrees North, 82 Degrees West," as played by the Stan Kenton Band, featuring Brett Eichman on piano, David Struss on trombone, Ike Hamm on alto saxophone, Nick Yoder on guitar, Andy Feyes on trumpet and Brian Fibelkorn on bass trombone; "Early Autumn," as played by the Woody Herman Band, featuring Patrick Sullivan on trombone, Brian Cain on tenor saxophone and Brett Eichman on piano; "Four Brothers," as played by the Woody Herman Band, featuring Robby Avila on tenor saxophone, Ben Cold on baritone saxophone, Weston Cook on tenor saxophone, Brian Cain on tenor saxophone, Ike Hamm on clarinet; and "US," as played by the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra, featuring Peter Weinert on trombone, Jonathan Wallace on trumpet, Aaron Fisher on trumpet, Bobby Scharmann on bass and Wayne Goins and guitar.
The Lab A Jazz Ensemble will play: "Stones" by Frank Mantooth, "A View From the Side" by Bill Holman, "Ko-Ko" by Duke Ellington, and "Tenor Madness" by Sonny Rollins, arranged by Mark Taylor.
