Free tax help for students and staff

Submitted by Jennifer Wilson

K-State Research and Extension's Riley County office is coordinating the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.

This program provides free tax preparation assistance for taxpayers who earn less than $54,000 per year. IRS-certified volunteers are able to prepare basic federal and state tax returns. They can assist taxpayers in claiming earned income, child tax and education credits and more.

Volunteers cannot prepare international student or military returns.

The tax assistance site operates at the Manhattan Public Library and is open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays, and 1-8 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Appointments are required and can be made online at riley.ksu.edu, by phone at 785-565-6426 or by emailing vitataxes@gmail.com
