Students serving their university and country

Submitted by Jana Fallin

K-State's military-connected students are excited to talk with faculty and staff at the Meet Your Military-Connected Students workshop from 2:30-4 p.m. Feb. 22 in Hale Library's Hemisphere Room.

Come hear about the experiences an active duty soldier had taking online classes while deployed in Afghanistan. Learn about the challenges military children face in college. Talk with veterans about their transition to civilian and academic life. Hear from military spouses as well. Find out about the differences in communication styles expected by the military and academia.

Jonathan Hadley, a senior in the College of Business Administration, attended the event in 2016.

"This event helped shed a light on how we view ourselves within the classroom and the difficulties some of the service members face when entering the classroom after being away for many years," Hadley said. "The faculty utilized this opportunity to ensure that in the future they have the means for accommodating these students if such a situation arises. Having the proper tools handy for both the student and faculty are essential. This is only the first step in building a positive relationship among everyone attending K-State."
