Kansas State University hosting 39th annual speech tournament Oct. 1-2

Submitted by Craig Brown

K-State's communication studies department will host the 39th annual Lynne Ross Speech Tournament Oct. 1-2 in partnership with West Texas A&M University. Performances will start at 9 a.m. and the final performances will begin at 5 p.m. each day of competition. The tournament is open to the public.

Named after the longtime former K-State director of forensics, the tournament will have 12 schools from Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas and Minnesota competing in 11 public speaking and literature performance events. The tournament will feature five top-20 teams, including the 2015-2016 national champion University of Texas.

The student-competitors will focus their speeches and performances on a wide range of topics discussing the important issues facing the U.S. and the world.

For the first time in the Speech Team's 40-year history, the tournament will be hosted out of its home in the communication studies department in Nichols Hall. This will be an opportunity to showcase the team and department's new office spaces in Nichols Hall.
