Mark your calendars for the Summer Advising Institute
The third annual Kansas State University/National Academic Advising Association Summer Undergraduate Academic Advising Institute will be May 20-21 in the Leadership Studies Building. The institute will feature keynote addresses from Shane J. Lopez, Gallup senior scientist and fellow of the American Psychological Association, and Ruth A. Darling, assistant provost for student success at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
The summer institute, which is free and open to all interested K-State faculty and staff, has attracted approximately 150 participants in each of its first two years. Repeat attendance is happily encouraged.
In addition to marking your calendars, please email ideas and proposals for breakout sessions — of which we plan six in total — to Steve Dandaneau, vice provost for undergraduate studies and co-chair of the University Advising Committee, at dandaneau@k-state.edu.
Past breakout sessions addressed military-affiliated students, DARS reports, ACIC, students of concern, KSIS Innovations, Plan for Success, the integration of career and academic advising, faculty perspectives on advising, K-State's advisor's forum, first-year students, peer advising and international students. In some cases, repeat topics may be helpful, but new topics are highly encouraged.
