Fire code training for university personnel
Recently the Kansas fire marshal office's transitioned the older fire safety codes to the 2006 International Fire Code. While many of the codes are similar to the old codes, there are some significant changes that exist. These changes bring us into the 21st century for fire safety.
To assist with this transition at the university, the K-State Division of Public Safety, in cooperation with the Manhattan Fire Department, will sponsor a free educational seminar for university personnel. Other agencies in attendance will be the fire marshals and inspectors from other Kansas regent institutions, and various fire departments around the state.
Employees with safety responsibilities at K-State are invited to attend this six-hour intensive training. This includes safety officers, department safety personnel and members of each college environmental health and safety committee. The Division of Public Safety has invited Cindy Gier to provide the materials. Gier is the president of CMG Fire Protection Engineering Inc. and a registered fire protection engineer in Kansas, Missouri and Colorado. She has more than 23 years of experience in the fire safety field.
International Fire Code training will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, in the large lecture hall at the Manhattan Fire Department, 2000 Denison Ave. The training is free but seats are limited. Please register at safety@k-state.edu to reserve a seat.
