The 18th annual Leadership for the Common Good seminar will be headlined by Ed O’Malley, president and CEO of the Kansas Leadership Center. The seminar will be from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, at the K-State Student Union.
O’Malley, a K-State alumnus and former Kansas legislator, will use concepts from his new book, "For the Common Good," to help participants learn how to become skilled leaders. Sessions throughout the day will focus on the four competencies of effective leaders outlined by O’Malley:
• Manage self
• Diagnose situation
• Intervene skillfully
• Energize others
Every 2014 registration will include a personal copy of "For the Common Good."
K-State President Kirk Schulz will welcome seminar participants in the morning. During lunch National Geographic photographer Jim Richardson will delve into the portrayal of leadership through photography. A lunch-only registration option is available.
The K-State Leadership Seminar aims to enhance the leadership skills and capacities of the university community and communities throughout Kansas.
The objectives of the seminar are:
• To orchestrate an annual leadership development experience that provides practical, hands-on information, tools, best practices and next practices for effective leadership.
• To cultivate a learning community, connecting K-State faculty and staff with an interest in leadership development.
• To facilitate opportunities for continued learning beyond the annual seminar.
