Late Enrollment
A $65 Special Handling Fee will be assessed to students who enroll in classes on or after the first day of the term.
Registration/Enrollment Policies:
Attending Classes:
To clarify: students may not attend a course unless they are officially enrolled, and there is no provision in university policy that allows a student to participate in a class while working through holds, financial issues, or other enrollment blocks.
K‑State’s Enrollment Policy requires that students be formally registered in KSIS before attending or participating in a class. Enrollment into CANVAS is fed directly from KSIS, which is why instructors cannot manually add students to CANVAS as a workaround.
Faculty should not make informal or individual agreements with students to “sit in” or complete coursework with the intention of adding them later in the term. These arrangements circumvent university policy, create significant FERPA and financial‑aid compliance issues, and may expose both the student and the instructor to consequences. In many cases, enrollment holds relate to serious matters, such as financial delinquency, collections, academic standing, or required documentation, and instructors may not be aware of the full circumstances.
For these reasons, the university’s position is clear:
A student must be fully enrolled before attending, accessing materials, or participating in a course.
There is no allowed grace period, and no exceptions may be made at the instructor level.
If faculty encounter students who say they are resolving an enrollment issue, please direct the student to the appropriate office (Registrar, Student Financial Assistance, Cashiers, etc.) rather than allowing continued attendance.
