Accelerated Degree Program:
DARS/uAchieve
Final Examinations:
Yes. According to university policy, no exams—whether unit tests or finals—may be scheduled during the seven calendar days leading up to the first official day of final exams. (University Handbook, Section F70)
University policy protects students in this situation. If you have more than two finals scheduled on the same calendar day, you may request that one be rescheduled. This request should be made to the instructor of the class with the highest course number. Additionally, students should not be expected to take final exams or submit final projects during dead week.
Grades and Grading Policies:
Students may update the grading option for a course in KSIS if the following conditions are met:
-
You are currently enrolled in or waitlisted for the course.
-
The deadline to drop classes for the term has not passed.
-
The course allows for the A/Pass/Fail grading option (refer to the A/Pass/Fail policy for more information).
For detailed instructions, visit the KSIS: Change the Grading Option for a Class help page.
If you can no longer attend a class, you must officially drop or withdraw from it in KSIS before the published deadline in the Academic Calendar.
-
If you experience technical issues, contact your College Dean’s Office for assistance.
-
If you intend to stop attending all your courses, you must connect with your College Dean’s Office for next steps.
For more details, see the Drops/Withdrawals page.
An Incomplete grade ('I') may be requested from your instructor if you’ve actively participated in the course but are unable to complete it due to extenuating circumstances.
-
First, speak with your instructor to discuss whether an Incomplete is appropriate.
-
If approved, complete the Incomplete Agreement Form together to outline the remaining requirements and timeline.
Do not submit the form without first having this conversation. Refer to the Incomplete Grading Policy for additional guidance.
Yes. Instructors establish the grading criteria for their courses, which may include attendance, punctuality, and participation. It's your responsibility to understand each course’s expectations as outlined in the syllabus.
You can view your grades in KSIS in the following ways:
-
By reviewing your Academic History/Unofficial Transcript
-
By selecting Grades by Term
For part of term or non-standard courses that end before the regular semester concludes, instructors may submit grades as soon as the course is over. Once submitted, grades will appear in KSIS the next day following the overnight system update.
Final semester grades are officially posted after the grade submission deadline, typically the Tuesday after finals week. Grades are viewable in KSIS the following day (Wednesday). Check the Academic Calendar for exact dates.
'NR' stands for No Grade Reported, indicating that the instructor has not yet submitted a final grade for the course.
If the coursework outlined in your Incomplete Agreement was not completed by the deadline, the 'I' grade automatically converted to an 'F' per university policy. This failing grade is included in your GPA calculation.
If you stopped attending a class without officially dropping it in KSIS and did not notify your instructor, advisor, or dean's office, you likely received an 'F' due to non-participation.
If you experienced extenuating circumstances, you may submit an Appeal for Late Drop/Withdrawal for review.
Your GPA is calculated by dividing the total number of grade points earned by the total number of credit hours attempted. For details, refer to the University Catalog: GPA Policies.
Grades that do not impact your GPA include:
- CR (Credit Awarded)
- I (Incomplete)
- IH (Incomplete Hold)
- P (Pass)
- NC (No Credit Awarded)
- NH (Non-Reported Hold)
- NR (No Grade Reported)
- W (Withdrawn)
These grades should also be excluded from your total credit hours when calculating GPA.
NO. Grades earned at other institutions are not factored into your institutional GPA at K-State. However, other organizations (e.g., honor societies, graduate schools) may calculate GPA using their own criteria.
If you believe a grade was assigned unfairly (excluding academic dishonesty cases), you may file a grade appeal under the University Handbook, Appendix V, Section A, 1.3.
Steps include:
-
First, attempt to resolve the issue directly with your instructor.
-
If unresolved, you may submit a formal appeal within six months to the Academic Department Head, who will mediate the issue.
Try contacting the instructor using any contact info from your syllabus or by requesting assistance from the department. If the instructor is unavailable or unresponsive, contact the Department Head.
Important: If the deadline in your Incomplete Agreement has passed and no extension was documented before the instructor’s departure, neither the instructor nor department is obligated to accept your work.
Whether you can or should retake a course depends on the grade received and how the course applies to your degree requirements.
You should consult with your academic advisor or faculty mentor. Undergraduate students should also review the Undergraduate Retake Policy (University Handbook F65.1).
No. K-State does not assign class rank at the end of each term.
Instead, the university emphasizes individual academic achievement, GPA, and honors—not comparative rankings. Class rank is more commonly used in cohort-based or professional programs (e.g., veterinary residencies) but does not align with the flexible, varied academic paths most K-State students follow.
This approach supports personal development and avoids unnecessary competition based on differences in course rigor, academic trajectory, or time to degree.
Graduation/Commencement:
Students who have applied for graduation and are identified as Candidates for Scholastic/Latin Honors—based on their most recently completed and fully graded semester—will receive communication from their college dean’s office with information on how to pick up their honor cords.
Honor cords are typically distributed before the end of the semester and are based on the GPA from your most recently completed semester (e.g., Fall 2024 graduates were evaluated using Spring or Summer 2024 GPAs). This preliminary recognition is referred to as “Candidacy for Honors” and may differ from the official honors designation that appears on your diploma and transcript.
Your honor cord is a recognition of your candidacy status and may not match the final honors posted on your academic record. For more information about undergraduate graduation honors, please visit the Graduation Honors website.
If you have questions about your final honors after receiving your diploma, contact the Office of the Registrar at KSUgraduation@k-state.edu.
Registration & Enrollment:
Enrollment appointment times are available in your KSIS Student Center. Academic advisors are available to assist students through remote advising options. Plan to enroll through KSIS as usual. If you're unable to reach your advisor, contact your primary academic department for additional support.
-
Dropping a Class:
Dropping a course must be completed by the deadline listed on the Academic Calendar. If dropped by the deadline, the course will not appear on your transcript and any applicable tuition adjustments will be made. -
Withdrawing from a Class:
Withdrawing occurs after the drop deadline and results in a grade of “W” on your transcript. While there is no impact on your GPA, you will not receive a tuition refund and are still responsible for any outstanding charges.
