Suicide Prevention Awareness Week is Sept. 5-11

Suicide Prevention Awareness Week is Sept. 5-11.

During Suicide Prevention Awareness Week, individuals and organizations around the country join their voices to broadcast the message that suicide can be prevented and to reach as many people as possible with the tools and resources to support themselves and those around them.

Lafene Health Center and the Thrive Navigators, a registered departmental student organization, will host "How Can I Help" workshops for the K-State community to help show people how to talk with someone they are concerned about. The training is also part of the Bandana Project, a national suicide awareness campaign focused on spreading resources for mental health on college campuses. The "How Can I Help" training sessions will take place at 2:30 p.m. Sept. 7 and 6 p.m. Sept. 9, both in the Big 12 Room at the K-State Student Union.

If you are thinking about suicide or are concerned about someone else, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255). Skilled and trained counselors are available 24/7 to talk, answer questions, and help you navigate this challenging situation. You are not alone, and help is a phone call or chat away. Lafene CAPS is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. When Lafene CAPS is closed, mental health consultation is available at any time by calling the office number at 785-532-6927.
