Political science department to host virtual panel on 'The Politics of Discrimination in the United States'

Submitted by Braylee Jones

The political science department will host a virtual panel discussion examining some of the causes and consequences of political discrimination in the United States. The event will take place from 4-5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, via Zoom. Information on the meeting room can be found in the link provided below.

The panel includes speakers who will discuss three forms of discrimination we see in U.S. politics today: gender, racial and religious discrimination. The presentations for the event include:

  • Ethan Bernick, associate professor of political science, will discuss "How Racialization Continues to Work in American Politics."
  • Sabri Ciftci, associate professor of political science, will discuss "Elections and Islamophobia: Anti-Muslim Sentiment in American Politics."
  • Brianne Heidbreder, associate professor of political science, will discuss "Gender and Representation in U.S. Politics."

We hope that you will join us to participate in a discussion about this timely subject.
