Faculty and Staff

The incomplete grade reports have been placed in the new Grad-Resources Microsoft Teams Group files which you should now have access to. You can reach these files by logging in to Microsoft Teams. Probationary and dashboard reports will be available through this resource in the next 1-2 weeks.

Save the Date for the February Brown Bag session titled Using the Graduate Student Annual Review Process to Support Graduate Students. In this session, Dr. Megan Kennelly, Dr. Michael Veeman, and Dr. Jenny Bormann will talk about how strong of a tool the annual review is in building a positive grad student culture and to establishing a strong, positive, relationship between faculty and students. This brown bag will be held in person on February 22nd 11:30am - 1:00pm in Eisenhower 121, and via zoom.

The Graduate School will host monthly round tables during the Spring 2022 semester (in February, March, April) for graduate faculty members to discuss and reflect on their roles in working with graduate students. Experienced graduate faculty will participate in these conversations to share their knowledge and facilitate discussion. Faculty who became graduate faculty in the last three years are especially encouraged to attend. Fill the survey here to indicate interest and to sign up for the mailing list before February 1st.

The Spring 2022 Graduate School Brown Bag series will kick-off on January 26 at 11:30am. In this session, we will take a deeper dive into the Graduate Milestones dashboard with discussion focused on pilot reports for time to degree and program of study completion. The Brown Bag will be held via zoom.

Graduate Student Success

The Morrison Family Center for Student Well-being is piloting Cats Connect groups this semester to help K-State students expand their social network, build community, and reduce loneliness. The Cats Connect pilot will include a group just for graduate students. The Morrison Family Center for Student Well-being is working with Dr. Megan Miller, Graduate School student success coordinator, to identify a small number of graduate students for the pilot project.

As the spring semester begins, please be sure to follow up with your students to make certain they have an approved program of study on file in the Graduate School. To ensure student success full time students must file a program of study before the end of their second semester and part-time after the completion of nine credit hours.

Opportunities for Graduate Students

Current and incoming graduate students seeking an assistantship are encouraged to explore student affairs-related assistantship positions available across campus. Students can submit a single application to apply for multiple positions. The application deadline is February 7. The Office of Student Success is coordinating the application and interview process for these specific positions. Questions about the positions and application process should be directed to studentsuccess@k-state.edu.

The Graduate Student Council is accepting abstracts for the annual K-State Graduate Research, Arts, and Discovery (GRAD) Forum. This event is an excellent opportunity for students to share their research or scholarly work with the K-State community and develop their presentation and communication skills. Poster presentations will be held March 30 and oral presentations will be on March 31. Awards will be given to the most outstanding presentations. The abstract submission deadline is January 31.

The deadline for graduate students to register for the annual Three Minute Thesis competition is just over a week away. The 3MT is an excellent opportunity for graduate students to develop their communication skills. Reminder: The dean from the college with the most students participating will be invited to serve as a judge in the final competition.

The Graduate Student Council (GSC) Professional Development seminar series kicks off February 1 at 2:00pm via Zoom with “Creating Your Individual Development Plan.” Presented by Dr. Jocelyn McDonald, in this session, participants will learn how to use the IDP model to define achievable goals, identify resources, develop strategies for implementing their plans, and track their progress.

The Library and Your Research is a free workshop series that helps graduate students enhance and professionalize their scholarly pursuits. The workshops are held on Mondays at 1:30pm via Zoom, and address topics such as, starting a literature review, managing citations and references, understanding academic publishing, intro to survey design, and finding data sets.

Graduate students writing a thesis, dissertation, or report are encouraged to attend an ETDR Templates training session (January 31, 1:00-2:30pm, via Zoom) to learn how to properly format their document using Microsoft Word and LaTeX templates. Students are encouraged to use the template early in the writing process.

Funding for Graduate Students

The Alumni Association has announced a new award opportunity for Graduate Students. The LGBTQ+ Leadership Award will be awarded to one graduate student who have shown outstanding leadership qualities and who actively promoted and advocated for engagement within and with the LGBTQ+ community on K-State's campus(es).

You can find a full list of Alumni Association Awards on the Graduate School webpage. The deadline for all of these awards is February 11.

ETS’s Research and Development Division is seeking undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in research opportunities working in collaboration with ETS team members to carry out innovative and impactful R&D projects.
