Volunteer to be a judge at Research and the State

The Graduate Student Council is calling for faculty and post-doc judge volunteers for the annual Research and the State graduate student poster session. The poster session will be held in the K-State Student Union Courtyard on October 27, 2021 from 1:00-3:00pm. The time commitment for judges will be 1-2.5 hours. If interested in serving as a judge, please complete a brief online form to express your interest and provide your availability on October 27.

Attend the Graduate School Brown - Admissions: Best Practices

The next Graduate School Brown Bag, October 19 at 11:30am, will address best practices in admissions. The Brown Bag series serves to facilitate communication and enhance collaboration between the Graduate School and graduate programs to support graduate student success.

Admissions

Using Application Fee Waivers

Departments that wish to pay the application fee for graduate applicants may purchase fee waiver codes from the Graduate School. Purchased codes may be given to prospective students so that their application fee can be waived. Codes are available usually in minimum orders of 5 codes. When purchasing, please indicate the quantity of Domestic ($65) and/or International ($75) applications codes that are required. Requests should be sent to jphoran@ksu.edu.

Graduate student progress

File Programs of Study

As the fall semester begins, please be sure to follow up with your students to make certain they have an approved program of study on file at the Graduate School. Full time students must file a program of study before the end of their second semester to ensure student success.

Deadline to have name in commencement program: October 8

Masters and doctoral students planning to graduate in fall 2021 need to submit the "KSIS graduation application form" by October 8 if they want their name to appear in the fall 2021 commencement program booklet. If students miss this deadline, they can still graduate and participate in fall 2021 commencement if they meet other appropriate deadlines, and their name will be printed in the spring 2022 commencement program. See the Graduate School’s graduation checklists for more guidance on graduation and commencement requirements and deadlines.

Opportunities for graduate students

Identifying Graduate Fellowships session

Hosted by the Office of Research Development, this session will address a variety of funding opportunities offered by the National Science Foundation (NSF), Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Energy (DoE), Hertz Foundation, and the American Association of University Women (AAUW). Opportunities in the Humanities and Social Sciences will also be addressed. Attendees will also learn how to search for other fellowships on their own. The session will be held October 7, 3:30-5:00pm via Zoom. Register to receive Zoom link.

Graduate Student Coffee Chat with the Dean

Graduate students are invited to this informal chat for discussion with Dean Petrescu on October 13 at noon. Talking with graduate students is a great way for Dean Petrescu to learn more about graduate student success as well as how to address challenges and continue to enhance graduate student life at K-State. Graduate School Launching Search for Executive Assistant

Cynthia Brott, the Graduate School Executive Assistant, has moved to the office of Shared Services Accounting. The Graduate School is in the process of launching a search for a new Executive Assistant. All inquiries that would normally go to Cynthia should now go to gradinfo@ksu.edu. Messages will then be routed to the appropriate team member.
