Copying/Pasting - Word for Mac 2008

When copying text from an existing Word document and pasting it into the template, be sure not to include the formatting from the source document. There are two ways to do this:

Option 1: Paste

  1. Copy the desired text.
  2. Click at the desired location within the template.
  3. On the Edit menu, click Paste.
  4. At the bottom of the pasted text, point to the Paste Options icon that appears and pull down the menu.
  5. Click Match Destination Formatting.

Option 2: Paste Special

  1. Copy the desired text.
  2. Click at the desired location within the template.
  3. On the Edit menu, click Paste Special.
  4. In the Paste Special dialog box, click Unformatted Text.
  5. Click OK.

With both techniques, you may need to adjust a style after pasting. For example, if all the text you pasted was in “Normal” style, you may want to change chapter subheadings to style “Heading 2.”

See the Tables and Spreadsheets section for details on copying/pasting from Excel.
