Deferments

Deferments are granted to students who have met certain guidelines as authorized by the Kansas Board of Regents and provide eligible students with additional time to pay for their tuition and fees. Deferments are granted for one semester only. Applications must be made for each semester desired. A list of non-deferred charges are at the bottom of the page.

Due dates for each category are listed below. If the listed due date falls on a weekend or a university holiday, it will be moved to the next business day.

Authorized deferment categories

Financial aid

  • Deferment must be requested by the student and approved by Student Financial Assistance.
  • Granted to qualifying students who have met all financial aid application requirements and whose awards have been made by the June packaging date, but whose aid has not been disbursed.
  • Student must pay any tuition and fees that will not be covered by the anticipated financial aid.
  • Students must pay non-deferred charges by the original due date as shown on their billing statement.
  • Deferred due date for qualifying tuition and fees: September 15 (Fall), February 15 (Spring), July 15 (Summer).

Students utilizing military benefits

  • Deferment is determined and automatically administered by the Office of Veterans Affairs.
  • Granted to students who are eligible to receive monthly benefits or tuition support from the US Government or the State of Kansas.
  • Submit your Enrollment Certification Request Form before the first day of classes to avoid assessment of late fees.
  • Students must pay non-deferred charges by the original due date as shown on their billing statement.
  • Deferred due date for qualifying tuition and fees: October 15 (Fall), March 15 (Spring), July 15 (Summer).

Graduate students on assistantship

  • Granted to students who are employed in an assistantship (GTA, GRA or GA) and will be receiving a university paycheck.
  • Deferment is administered by Cashiers and Student Accounts once the student is marked as eligible by Human Resources and the Office of the Registrar.
  • Students must pay non-deferred charges by the original due date as shown on their billing statement.
  • Deferred due date for qualifying tuition and fees: October 15 (Fall), March 15 (Spring), July 15 (Summer).

Charges not deferred

The following charges are not considered qualifying tuition and fees and may not deferred:

  • Parking charges
  • Special housing charges (including Jardine Apartment rent)
  • Default charges (late fees)
  • Library fees
  • Athletic tickets
  • Previous semester charges
  • Certain departmental charges (Lafene Health Center, lab checkout fees, etc.)
  • Special handling and late enrollment fees
