Curriculum Approval Deadlines
The following deadlines are intended to help colleges and departments plan course and program/plan proposals for the desired effective term.
Curriculum proposals must complete all required university approvals and final processing before they can be implemented. Proposals requiring additional approvals, revisions, or processing may need to move to a subsequent effective term if the applicable deadlines cannot be met.
These are final approval targets, not submission deadlines. Colleges and departments should allow sufficient time for department, college, Graduate Council (when applicable), and other required approvals before the deadlines shown below.
The deadlines above represent the latest recommended university-level approval points. Proposal originators should work backward from the intended effective term and allow sufficient time for all applicable department, college, and university approvals.
Course Proposals
Use the Course Timeline for the complete approval and implementation sequence, including Coursedog workflow, Graduate Council when applicable, Faculty Senate, and Registrar processing.

Program/Plan Proposals
Use the Program/Plan Timeline for the complete approval and implementation sequence, including Coursedog workflow, Graduate Council when applicable, Faculty Senate, Provost and KBOR approval when required, and Registrar implementation.

Graduate Courses
Courses numbered 600 and above may require Graduate Council review. Refer to the Graduate Council meeting schedule and the Course Timeline when planning submission dates.
Graduate Programs/Plans
Graduate curriculum proposals may require Graduate Council review before proceeding through the remaining university governance process.
Expedited Proposals
An expedited designation does not eliminate the requirement for the proposal to complete all applicable approvals and implementation steps by the deadline for the intended effective term.
KBOR Approval
Some new programs and program changes require Kansas Board of Regents approval. When KBOR approval is required, the proposal cannot become effective until that approval has been received.
Approval & Implementation Deadlines
| Proposal Type | Intended Effective Term | Recommended Final Governance Approval | Additional Approval / Processing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Course | Fall | Faculty Senate approval by March | Final Registrar processing must be completed before implementation and enrollment |
| Course | Spring | Faculty Senate approval by May | Final Registrar processing must be completed before implementation and enrollment |
| Course | Summer | Faculty Senate approval by March | Final Registrar processing must be completed before implementation and enrollment |
| Program/Plan – Change to Existing | Fall | Faculty Senate approval by March | Provost and/or KBOR approval may be required; Registrar implementation follows |
| Program/Plan – New | Fall | Faculty Senate approval by March | Additional Provost and/or KBOR approval may be required before implementation |
| Program/Plan – Change to Existing | Spring | Faculty Senate approval by May | Provost and/or KBOR approval may be required; Registrar implementation follows |
| Program/Plan – New | Spring | Faculty Senate approval by May | Additional Provost and/or KBOR approval may be required before implementation |
Important
Meeting the final Faculty Senate deadline does not guarantee implementation for the requested term. Proposals must complete all applicable approvals and allow sufficient time for Registrar processing, system updates, catalog publication, scheduling, and enrollment.
Proposals that require Kansas Board of Regents approval cannot be implemented until all required KBOR approvals have been received.
