Course Timelines
Before you begin
- Plan ahead. Course proposals move through multiple levels of review and approval. Submit early enough to allow time for revisions or questions at any stage of the process.
- Complete local approvals first. Proposals must complete all required department, school, and college-level review before advancing to university-level governance.
- Consider enrollment timelines. Course approvals should be finalized before the course schedule is published and students begin planning and enrolling. Changes made after students begin building schedules may create enrollment or advising issues.
- Deadlines represent the latest recommended point in the approval process. Meeting an individual deadline does not guarantee implementation for the requested term if additional revisions or approvals are required.
- Incomplete proposals may be delayed. Proposals requiring additional information, corrections, or significant revisions may move to a later approval cycle or effective term.
- Graduate courses follow additional governance steps. Graduate-level course proposals must complete the applicable Graduate Council review and approval process.
- Final implementation occurs after governance approval. Approved courses may require KSIS configuration, course coding, DARS updates, prerequisite/requisite configuration, and other system changes before they are available for scheduling and enrollment.
Course Approval & Implementation Deadline
Course proposals must complete all required approvals and final Registrar processing before enrollment begins for the intended effective term.
Proposals should be completed before the course schedule is published whenever possible to minimize impacts to student planning, enrollment, and advising.
How to use the timeline:
Identify the desired effective term—Fall or Spring—and follow that column down the table to determine the expected approval milestones. The Faculty Senate row represents final governance approval; additional Registrar processing is required before implementation.
* Graduate proposals only.
