A Season for Nonviolence 2012
Walking in the moonlight on the Konza Praire: some thoughts
What do a moonlight hike on the Konza Prairie, Noontime Yoga classes in Ahearn Gym, an international
news television in the Union, student social action groups cleaning litter from Bill Snyder Highway, and
workshops on nonviolent communications skills have in common? Although they appear unrelated, in
fact they represent some of the many ways the K-State community is learning to practice nonviolence
in our own lives. The global nonviolence axiom "Want peace? Work for justice" translates locally
to, "Want a safe campus or even a safe date? Work for fair relationships." In other words: If we want
sustainable relationship systems at all levels, we need to work for healthy organic balance. How?
Practice nonviolence. It is the only way. S. Allen
Konza Walk made me think how lucky I am to have experienced one day in my life when I am walking in
the wilderness, in the middle of the night, with no fear in my heart and only compassion to share with
the fellow walkers. I tasted freedom! We were always supposed to coexist with nature but we humans
have big dirty plans! Thank you Women's Center for gifting me pure happiness ♥ L. De
"Walking in peace is a nonviolent action that anyone can do to promote and model healthy living within
ourselves and within our communities. The Season for Nonviolence gives us many such opportunities to
find creative ways for such mindful and transformational actions." D. Lambert
A Season for Nonviolence is about getting together and finding the peace inside our selves; to do great
things, to make a difference, without the need for weapons or fear. By participating in the Moonlight
Konza Prairie Walk, by surrounding yourself with complete and utter peace, you have taken a step
to knowing yourself: Knowing yourself without an ounce of violence within miles of your being. By
taking part in this act of total nonviolence, I hope you had a moment of being closer to inner peace.
Nonviolence starts with a peaceful self. Thank you so much for getting peaceful on the Konza with us. S.
