Maintain Schedule of Classes

PurposeUse this procedure to add or modify class sections for an upcoming term.
Menu Path

Use the following menu path(s) to begin this task:

· Curriculum Management > Schedule of Classes > Schedule New Course
· Curriculum Management > Schedule of Classes > Maintain Schedule of Classes

Procedure

  1. Navigate to:

    Curriculum Management > Schedule of Classes > Maintain Schedule of Classes

            or
    Curriculum Management > Schedule of Classes > Schedule New Course

    Note:  The functionality of the pages in the Maintain Schedule of Classes component is identical to the Schedule New Course component, but the view of classes offered to you is limited to scheduled classes only. If you need to add a class section for a course that is not already offered for a term, you must use the Schedule New Course component.

  2. Enter the appropriate information in the following fields:
    Field Name R/O  Description
    Academic InstitutionRKansas State University, indicated as ‘KSUNV’.
    TermR

    Semester in which classes are offered. Terms are identified by a four-digit number where the first digit represents the century, the second and third digits represent the year, and the final digit represents the semester (2 for Spring, 4 for Summer, 5 for Fall). I.e. Spring 2008 = 2082, Fall 2007 = 2075.
    Example: 2065 (Fall 2006)

    Subject AreaO

    The department code for the department offering the course.
    Example: ECE (Electrical and Computer Engineering)

    Catalog NbrO

    The numeric portion of the K-State assigned course catalog number.
    Example: 502

    Academic CareerO

    A Grouping of all academic work undertaken by a student grouped into a single statistical record. KSU will use Undergraduate, Graduate, and Veterinary Medicine careers to designate their students.
    Example: (left blank)

  3. Click Search button to find the desired class.

  4. Perform one of the following:

    Class Section already exists

    Click Plus sign in the Class Sections region.
    No class sections existContinue.

5.  As needed, update the following fields:

Class Sections Definitions

Field Name R/O  Description
SessionRPeriods of instruction within a given term.  Possible values are:
  • 1 (Regular Session)
  • NST (Non Standard

Class SectionR

Code indicating the section offering of the course.

Example: A, B, C, etc.

Start/End DateRThe first and last day a class is to be offered.
  • Regular - default to be the first day of classes and the last day of exams.
  • Non-Standard (NST) - enter the first and last days of classes.

ComponentR

The format of the section.

Example: Lab, Lecture, Recitation

Class TypeR

Indication of whether the class is considered Enrollment or Non-Enrollment.

  • Enrollment - the primary, or graded, component. Only one Enrollment component can exist for each class.
  • Non-Enrollment - non-graded components.
Associated ClassR

Groups of classes or class components that must be taken simultaneously may be grouped together as "Associated Classes". Each series of grouped classes will share the same Associated Class ID.

Example:  1, 2, 3, etc.

Campus

KSU - The Campus in KSIS is used to designate entities that use a single transcript, course catalog, and other academic differences. The Salina and Continuing Education classes are designated as Locations in KSIS.

Example: KSU

Location 

Used to designate where a class is offered.

Possible values are:

  • MAN (Manhattan campus)
  • MCE (Manhattan continuing education)
  • OLT (Olathe campus)
  • OCE (Olathe continuing education)
  • SAL (Salina campus)
  • SCE (Salina continuing education)

Note: Department schedulers should not update continuing education Sections

Course AdministratorO

Used for MCE sections only.  Specifies a class coordinator.

Leave blank for other sections.

Academic Organization 

The Academic Organization code assigned to the Subject Area.
This value defaults to the value assigned at the Course level.

Example: 45070 

Holiday Schedule 

Used for creating online schedules, calendars, fee deadlines, and other functions within KSIS.

Example: KACAD 

Instruction Mode 

Defines how course content is delivered.

Possible values are:

  • P    (in Person) default
  • D   (Distance)
  • GS (Guided Study)
  • H    (Hybrid)

Instruction Mode and Delivery

Primary Instr SectionO

Indication of the Primary component of a Class Section.
Use the same value as entered in Class Section above.

Example: A

Schedule PrintO

Determines whether or not this class section will be viewable in the online schedule of classes.

Example: Checkmark

Student Specific PermissionsO

Class permission that must be granted to each individual student before that student can enroll in the class.

Example: Checkmark

General Class Mtg. AttendanceO

When checked, this enables the class rosters for this course to be generated from the appropriate Faculty Self Service area.

Class Topic Definitions

Field Name/R/O/CDescription
Course topic IDO

Topic title to be given to class section when the topic may vary by Class section.
Leave this value blank if the topic will not vary by section.

Equivalent Course Group Definitions

Field Name R/O  Description
Course Equivalent Course GroupO

Used to assign course equivalencies for requisite checking.  Equivalent Course Groups must be established prior to assigning them to a course or class.

NOT USED

Override Equivalent CourseO

Used to assign equivalent course functionality at the section level. Leaving the box unchecked will allow the default values established elsewhere to take effect.

  • DEGR Degree Seeking Only
  • DEPT Dept Approval Required
  • HON Honors Program
  • JUN Open to Juniors Only
  • MAJ Open to Majors Only
  • MIN Open to Minors Only
  • NMAJ Open to Non-Majors Only
  • SEN Open to Seniors Only

Note:  These class attributes display additional information about the class.  If enrollment must also be controlled, then define a requisite rule.

For Continuing Education use ONLY:

  • ZMPR MCE Program Code
  • ZMON MCE On or Off Campus
  • ZSCC SCE Concurrent Credit
  • ZSON SCE On or Off Campus
  • ZSPR SCE Program Code
