Irrigation Consortium requests pre-proposals for collaborative irrigation research

Submitted by Melissa Harvey

The Irrigation Innovation Consortium, of which Kansas State University is a founding member, is requesting pre-proposals to support collaborative research on accelerating the development and adoption of water and energy-efficient irrigation technologies, tools and practices.

The consortium has a total of $500,000 to award through this RFP and project teams must provide a non-federal match. Research projects should fit within one or more of the consortium's priority research topic areas: evaluating and improving technologies and recommendations; improving integration of tools and strategies; data synthesis to inform decision making; clarifying water use benchmarks, targets, and protocols; and quantifying potential benefits of advanced irrigation management.

Project teams must involve at least one irrigation sector partner and research or Extension staff from one or more Irrigation Innovation Consortium member universities — Colorado State, K-State, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Fresno State and Texas A&M. Teams also can have partners from other private and public institutions, including nonprofits.

The consortium anticipated funding up to five projects with this RFP. Pre-proposals are due March 11. Details about the Irrigation Innovation Consortium and how to download this year's RFP are available on the KCARE website.
