Student Senate Weekly Update

Submitted by Blake Phillips

Hello, Wildcats!

Student Senate resumed meeting for the spring semester on Thursday, Jan. 27. At the meeting, Student Senate approved a commendation to the Kansas State University Meat Judging Team, new student senators and members of the Student Centered Tuition Enhancements Committee. After this, Student Senate entered into debate on legislation to give speaking privileges in Student Senate to judicial branch members of the K-State Student Governing Association. These bills were not approved by Student Senate.

After voting concluded, Student Senate introduced legislation to fund the travel of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers, amend K-State SGA independent positions, amend the funding guidelines of the Student Centered Tuition Enhancements Committee, and decrease the student services fee agreements of Lafene Health Center and CAPS. In this legislation, student services fee funding for these entities would decrease by 18% next year, and 20% the year after due to decreased revenue from the student services fee. If you have any questions about student services fee funding, please contact Max Harman, student services fee committee chair, at mjharman@k-state.edu

Student Senate will reconvene at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, in the Wildcat Chamber at the K-State Student Union. All are welcome to attend in person or can watch live on YouTube at the K-State SGA YouTube channel.
