Mental health training: 'Voices, Paranoia, Unusual Beliefs, and Trauma'

Submitted by Amanda Sasser

Creative Arts Therapies Students to Host a Training

Creative Arts Therapies Students, or CATS, a registered departmental student organization, welcomes anyone interested in learning how to work with and support individuals who hear voices, live with paranoia and/or have unusual beliefs or delusions. Although the workshop is designed for counseling students, drama therapy students and interested faculty/staff, we want to include anyone who would like to learn more to join us for this training event. Please help us get the word out.

The event will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 13. For convenience, it will be hosted on Zoom.

We will be joined by Peter Bullimore of the National Paranoia Network and will cover the effects of trauma and how it relates to hearing voices, paranoia and unusual beliefs; appropriate language; how to start a therapy group, what might come up in a therapy group; and more! We're squeezing as much as we can into three hours. The training is free to all K-State participants thanks to a generous grant from the Student Governing Association.

Please email alsasser@k-state.edu to RSVP and get the Zoom link. In your email please include your name, area of study, expected graduation date and if you would like to be contacted about future CATS events. Please use subject line "RSVP."
