Student Senate Weekly Update

Submitted by Blake Phillips

Good morning, Wildcats!

Student Senate met on Thursday, Nov. 4. At the meeting, the body voted on and introduced several pieces of legislation. Senators voted to commend Linda Cook for her service to the university as she retires at the end of this semester. The senate approved Abby Brey and Hannah Meyer as student senators for the College of Health and Human Sciences. This college still has multiple vacancies for student senators, so please contact Senate Operations Chair Evan Porter at evanporter01@k-state.edu if you are a College of Health and Human Sciences student interested in serving. The senate also ratified two constitutional amendments via the representatives from each college and approved a travel allocation to the Wildlife and Outdoor Enterprise Management Club.

Student Senate voted to approve changes to the Student Governing Association elections season, the timing of term transitions for SGA, clarifications in the SGA governing documents and Educational Opportunity Fund allocations for fiscal year 2021. Student Senate also voted to approve over $1.6 million in Student Services Fee budget callbacks due to a decline in enrollment.

After voting concluded, the senate introduced a travel allocation to the Nuclear Society and a series of amendments. These amendments included parliamentarian responsibilities, the college council ratification process, increasing the limit on student contributions to campaigns, and Educational Opportunity Fund guidelines.

Student Senate will reconvene at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, in Wildcat Chamber at the K-State Student Union. All are welcome to attend in person or can watch live on YouTube at the K-State SGA YouTube channel.
