Safety resources offered for K-State community

Submitted by Savannah Greiner

With the days getting shorter and winter on the way, it’s a good time to remind our K-State community about safety resources K-State offers: Rave Guardian, K-State Alerts and blue light phones.

The Rave Guardian application provides a direct connection to K-State Police and other resources to help you with your safety needs. Features include:

  • One-click emergency dial to 9-1-1.
  • Safe Walk, a virtual campus safety escort. Users set a virtual safety time and share with friend and family, or an official guardian. It includes an option to give you helpful information such as where you are going and stops you may make.
  • Two-way text communication with campus police. Share information and safety concerns with K-State Police via text messages, with the option to stay anonymous.
  • Call directory with campus resources. Place a direct call to campus resources and support services with the option to share your location with safety officials during the call.
  • Campus alerts and updates. Receive alerts based on your location, even when you don’t have a cell signal.

The Rave Guardian app is free for all members of the K-State community to download. To register, search for and download the Rave Guardian app with the blue shield icon from iTunes or Google Play. Fill in your contact information using your K-State email address and select Kansas State University as your school.

With the potential for inclement winter weather, K-State Alerts notifications are a great way for our community to receive information about campus closures. This emergency notification system allows campus authorities to communicate emergency information to the university community. Alerts are delivered to all K-State email addresses, plus you can sign up for other delivery methods including text messages, Rave Guardian and phone calls. To manage notification options and select which campuses to receive notifications about, log in to K-State Connect and select the K-State Alerts tab under the profile section.

Blue light phone boxes are located throughout campus. These phone boxes are monitored by the K-State Police Department and allow quick access to emergency services, to report a crime or accident and to ask for directions.
