Don't wait for an emergency to realize you should sign up or modify your settings in K-State Alerts

K-State Alerts is the university's emergency notification system that provides short and direct messaging for campuses through text messages, email, alert beacons, the website, social media and possibly a loudspeaker. The messages are designed to give basic information in as few characters as possible so K-Staters can quickly read and implement safety plans.

You'll only receive K-State Alerts by text message if you opt-in.
Currently, all K-Staters automatically receive alerts via their K-State email addresses. Please remember, you'll only receive K-State Alerts by text message if you opt-in via K-State Connect under the "K-State Alerts" tab in the "Profile" section.

Download the Rave Guardian mobile app, which is an integrated feature of K-State Alerts.
The Rave Guardian app provides a direct connection to K-State Police and other resources, plus allows you to receive alert push notifications based on your location, even when you don't have a cell signal. Learn more at k-state.edu/police/rave_guardian/index.html

Alerts settings default to coverage for all three campuses.
You can change this setting in K-State ConnectRead how. Additionally, K-Staters who live off campus will find links to enroll in the notification systems of the counties hosting a K-State campus or in which a significant number of K-State employees live.

You can add up to three phone numbers and emails on your account.
This is a good way to include family members in notifications if desired. Non-affiliated K-State visitors and community members can receive alerts for all three campuses by texting KSTATEVISITOR to 67283.

The K-State Alerts policy was revised to only announce emergencies and campus closures.
Surveys and feedback forms indicated that many people found it intrusive to receive alerts for thunderstorm watches and other weather events not requiring action, causing them to unsubscribe from text alerts. The policy was revised several years ago and K-State Alerts are now only used for weather notices when they threaten university property, cause campus closures or pose serious safety issues. Please enroll in text alerts for the most direct means of all types of K-State emergency notices and use your preferred weather safety app or notification system to stay informed about general weather conditions.

The K-State Alerts system is tested twice per year on specified days.
Tests ensure that the K-State Alerts service is functioning properly. Advanced notification of the tests will be sent via K-State Today, the university's daily e-newsletter, and K-State's social media accounts. The next test is scheduled for 1:20 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13.
