About K-State Alerts
What is K-State Alerts?
K-State Alerts is Kansas State University's emergency notification system that gives campus authorities the ability to communicate emergency information quickly to the university community using some or all of the following channels:
- Text messaging
- Automated phone calls
- Broadcast e-mails to all @k-state.edu accounts
- Alert beacons
- Police public address systems
- Campus carillon in the Anderson Hall tower
- Tornado warning sirens
- K-State staff carrying radios
- Postings to the K-State website
When will the university send me emergency alerts using K-State Alerts?
K-State Alerts will only be used to inform recipients when a dangerous condition exists on campus (e.g. active shooter, storm in process, dangerous debris from storm), when a decision to close the campus has been made or when a decision to reopen the campus following a forced closure has been made.
Who is eligible to sign up for K-State Alerts?
Current students, staff, and faculty with an active eID are eligible to sign up for K-State Alerts text messages and phone calls. This includes K-Staters at the Manhattan, Salina and Olathe campuses, distance students and those at research and extension offices. If desired, K-Staters could add their parents, children, or spouse's phone numbers when they sign up for K-State Alerts. Text messages and automated phone call alerts and provided by Rave Wireless.
How often is K-State Alerts tested?
Twice per year on specified days. Tests ensure that the K-State Alerts and Rave Mobile Safety service are functioning properly. You will be notified in advance of the test. If you do not receive the test alert, please verify you are set to receive emergency alerts and that the saved phone numbers are correct and current. If you need assistance, contact the IT Help Desk.
What happens after I graduate or am no longer employed by K-State?
Approximately three weeks after your eID is no longer privileged to use K-State Alerts, your emergency contact information will become disabled and you will no longer receive emergency alerts.
What are Alert Beacons?
Alert beacons are wall-mounted units that use sirens, flashing strobe lights, and digital text to immediately alert people of an emergency. The beacons are installed in many Manhattan, Salina, and Olathe lecture halls, hallways and residence halls. The installation of the alert beacons is funded through the City/University projects fund.
Who is Rave Wireless?
K-State Alerts has partnered with Rave Wireless, the leader in mobile safety, to offer an emergency notification system capable of sending users text messages and automated phone calls in the event of a university emergency.
Will I receive unsolicited messages ("SPAM") as a result of giving my phone number to K-State Alerts?
No. Only authorized personnel are permitted to send emergency alerts using K-State Alerts. In addition, K-State will not sell your contact information to third party marketers.
Receive emergency alerts
Where do I sign up?
Sign in to Connect and click the K-State Alerts link in the Info section. You can choose to receive alerts specific to your campus (Manhattan, Salina, Olathe). You can also add up to six phone numbers, three numbers can receive text messages and three numbers can receive automated phone calls.
What number will appear when I receive automated phone calls or text messages?
K-State Alert's local phone number, 785-532-0111, will appear when receiving an automated phone call. Text messages will come from either 67283 or 226787. We encourage you to save these numbers into your phone so you will recognize them when messages are sent. Some smaller carriers do not support short code messaging. For these carriers, you will receive messages from @getrave.com.

Change my number or stop receiving alerts
How do I change my emergency contact phone numbers?
Sign in to Connect and click the K-State Alerts link in the Info section. Edit or Delete any of your phone numbers.
How do I stop receiving alerts?
Sign in to Connect and click the K-State Alerts link in the Info section. Click the Delete link next to each phone number you no longer want alerts sent to.
I'm signed up for both text messages and automated phone calls, how do I change my settings so I only receive text messages?
Sign in to Connect and click the K-State Alerts link in the Info section. Uncheck the Enable Voice Message Delivery box next to your mobile number.
