Don't waste: Donate items when you Move Out For Hunger

Submitted by Alesha Bergner

As the semester comes to a close and students move out of the dorms, there may be certain items you don't want to pack. Don't waste those items in the trash! K-State's Food Recovery Network and Cats' Cupboard have partnered with Housing and Dining Services to create Move Out For Hunger. This event was created to rescue:

  • Nonperishable food items
  • Unused hygiene products
  • Gently used kitchen/household appliances

Bins are located in the lobby of each dormitory on campus for students to donate items to as they move out, lasting from May 7-17. Rather than throwing things away, donate them instead. Thank You for supporting your campus community.

Are you moving from housing off campus? If you have some of the listed items above you'd like to donate, drop them off at Cats' Cupboard during regular hours

Not accepted:

  • Perishable foods
  • Used hygiene products
  • Clothes
  • School supplies

Most needed:

  • Microwaves
  • Can openers (manual and electric)
  • Dish soap
  • Toothpaste
  • Deodorant
  • Ramen noodles
  • Shelf-stable milk
  • Gluten-free items

Interested in helping us move the items from the dorms to Cats' Cupboard? Reach out to the K-State Food Recovery Network president, Alesha Bergner, at aleshabergner@k-state.edu and she can give you all the information on what you can do to volunteer.
