SGA statement on 2020 US elections

Submitted by Nathan Bothwell

At the Sept. 3 Student Senate meeting, SGA approved the following statement regarding the 2020 U.S. elections. This resolution was passed to lay out a set of non-enforceable expectations about how students should conduct themselves before, during and after the 2020 elections.

KSU SGA STATEMENT REGARDING THE 2020 UNITED STATES ELECTIONS

  1. KSU SGA encourages every student who is eligible to vote to do so.
  2. KSU SGA urges every student to vote in local elections as well as national elections, as local elections can be just as important to setting policies that affect every member of the KSU community.
  3. KSU SGA advises voters to learn about every candidate on their ballot before casting it to ensure their vote aligns with their values and beliefs rather than simply political affiliation or popular sentiment.
  4. KSU SGA encourages every student to engage with others in a spirit of civility, decency and mutual respect in all areas of life, no matter what others' political beliefs are.
  5. KSU SGA reaffirms the relevance and importance of the Kansas State University Principles of Community.
