Primary Texts Swogger Scholarship winners chosen

Submitted by Whitney Croll

Suan Sonna and Cade Ciesielski, students in K-State's primary texts certificate program, have won a $1,000 scholarship for the spring 2020 semester. The scholarships are used toward study or research using primary texts.

Sonna is a philosophy major passionate about the philosophy of religion, ethics, metaphysics and political philosophy. With the scholarship, he will focus on whether the foundation of morality and the cosmos require an ultimate explanation that transcends this world. This research will prepare him for his summer work at the Thomistic Study Institute in New York, where he will study Aquinas' work on ethics and natural science. Sonna hopes to publish his findings under the guidance of Professor David Baggett. One of his future goals is to become a professor who provides the public, and students, with justified hope.

Ciesielski is a philosophy and Spanish major pursuing pre-law. With the scholarship, she will study abroad with the faculty-led Spanish and Culture program in Mexico. While abroad, she will take a Spanish literature course at the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education. One of her future goals is to attend law school and work as an attorney, and she is currently interested in practicing immigration law and criminal defense.
