Submitted by Angelina Butler

Kirk Nordstrom, research hydrologist with U.S. Geological Survey, will present a hydrology workshop from 3:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, in the executive conference 4061 College of Business Building.

The workshop is titled "Overview of Groundwater Chemistry: The Convergence of Chemistry, Geology and Hydrology." The workshop provides an overview of groundwater chemistry research, reactions and processes across a variety of geochemical regimes.

If you wish to join the hydrology workshop, email Saugata Datta at sdatta@k-state.edu to RSVP.

On Thursday, March 21, Nordstrom will present a geology seminar at 4 p.m. in 213 Thompson Hall. The seminar is titled "Negative pH, Efflorescent Mineralogy, and the Challenge of Environmental Restoration at the Iron Mountain Mine Superfund Site, California." The seminar is open to the public and free of charge.

During the seminar and workshop, colleagues and students have the opportunity to learn from Nordstrom's more than 40 years of experience with the U.S. Geological Survey. He is recognized internationally for his research on acid mine drainage, radioactive waste disposal, geothermal chemistry, geomicrobiology, analytical chemistry and geochemical modeling.
