Legislative Update

Submitted by Sue Peterson

Last week, the Legislature continued to receive updates from state agencies and entities tied to state government. Legislators also are rushing to introduce legislation before the Feb. 15 deadline for all bills to be introduced.

This week, Wednesday, Feb. 6, the House Appropriations Committee will hear from the heads of all state universities, a representative of the community colleges and technical colleges. Kansas State University President Richard Myers will testify before the committee. President Myers has been asked to present testimony on the state of the university and to discuss the higher education system request for $50 million to address the lack of state support at the same level as 2009. President Myers' testimony will be available following the hearing.

The Office of Government Relations hosts bimonthly Legislative Updates. Future dates include Feb. 15, March 8, 22 and 29 and April 12. All updates are brown bag sessions at noon in the K-State Student Union's Cottonwood Room.
