Nigerian Adire cloth artist to lecture, lead workshops on tie dying
A collaboration between the K-State College of Education art education program and many campus and community departments and organizations is bringing an internationally renowned textile artist to campus for a lecture and workshops that are free and open to the public.
Gasali Adeyemo, a Nigerian Adire cloth artist who uses indigo and other natural dyes to create this traditional form of textile art, will conduct three workshops and one lecture. Workshop attendees can tie dye if they choose. Space and seating are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Adeyemo also will have pieces of his folk art — clothing, bags, cuts of fabric, scarves — for sale. The schedule is as follows:
Tuesday, April 3:
- 2:30-4:30 p.m.: Workshop in 118 Bluemont Hall
Wednesday, April 4:
- 2:30-4:30 p.m.: Workshop in 118 Bluemont Hall
- 6:30-8:30 p.m.: Workshop in 118 Bluemont Hall
Thursday, April 5:
- 10-10:45 a.m.: "Ise Ona-Learning from Art" lecture, sponsored by the College of Education and Beach Museum, as well as all collaborators, open to public.
