Students to host diversity summit April 5

Submitted by Amber Gordon

Students from the College of Arts and Sciences and Campaign for Non-Violence will host a Student Diversity Summit from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, April 5, in the K-State Student Union courtyard.

The summit will focus on growing together through adversity, highlighting why understanding cultural competencies is vital to the creation of an inclusive environment. Featuring student speakers and an interactive panel discussion, the event is open to all students, faculty, staff and members of the community.

"We’re excited about this event, which is a combined effort of many students and faculty from across campus," said Emily Worley, senior studying biology and one of the event organizers. "We would really love to see students, faculty and staff from across campus attend this event and support our community."

Prior to the event the summit will also showcase student speakers and various diverse student organizations giving students the chance to learn more about opportunities for involvement.

"We are fortunate to have student leaders at K-State who not only value diversity but who are willing to use their time to promote it to other students through events such as the Student Diversity Summit," said Kimathi Choma, assistant dean of diversity, recruitment and retention in the College of Arts and Sciences.

The event is come-and-go as you please, so come whenever you want and stay for as long as you can.
