Economics doctoral students publish in top journals

Submitted by Yang-Ming Chang

Mian Raza and Manaf Sellak, both doctoral candidates in the economics department, have their research papers published in prestigious journals in economics.

Raza's article, "Import Competition, Product Quality Reversal, and Welfare," appears in the February 2018 issue of Economics Letters. Raza presented an earlier edition of the article at the Illinois Economic Association conference, Chicago, Oct. 13-14, 2017.

Sellak's article, "A Game-Theoretic Analysis of International Trade and Political Conflict over External Territories," is forthcoming in the journal of Public Choice, 2018. Sellak presented an earlier edition of the article in the conflict/security sessions at the International Conference on Game Theory, Stony Brook University, New York, July 17-21, 2017.

Both students are under the supervision of Yang-Ming Chang, professor of economics. Based on statistics compiled by Research Papers in Economics, or RePEc, a prominent ranking service in economics, Chang is ranked in the top 5 percent of economists nationally according to the publication records of supervised students.
