Barrier-Free Theatre presents 'Achilles Under the Sea' this weekend

Submitted by Sally Bailey

The Barrier-Free Theatre, an acting troupe of adults with and without disabilities, will present their original play "Achilles Under the Sea" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 21, and Saturday, April 22, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 23, in the Purple Masque Theatre in West Memorial Stadium.

The Barrier-Free Theatre is a partnership between K-State's drama therapy program and the city of Manhattan parks and recreation department. K-State students — graduate and undergraduate — work together with a group of adults with disabilities from Manhattan each year to create an original play with music through improvisation.

This year, the troupe created a play about Greek mythology and an under the sea adventure. Achilles, the great Greek warrior, goes AWOL from the Trojan War to visit his mother, Thetis, a sea goddess, and meets underwater choruses of mermaids, jellyfish, seahorses and sharks.

Tickets are $10 and can be ordered from the K-State Theatre box office. Call 785-236-8638 or order online.  Tickets will be available at the door; however, come early for tickets as we often sell out.
