International Student and Scholar Services and philosophy department to host Kyrgyzstan international education event
K-State's International Student and Scholar Services and philosophy department will host a live conversation by Skype between students at K-State and students in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, from 8:15-9:15 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, at the International Student Center.
This will be an exciting opportunity for students who are interested in meeting students from Central Asia and learning about international education.
The forum will be open and based on students' interests. Possible topics of discussion include:
- University life and education for students in America and Kyrgyzstan.
- Similarities and differences between the American and Kyrgyz political systems.
- Cultural similarities and differences between America and Kyrgyzstan.
Audience members in Kyrgyzstan will include students in an English language program sponsored by the American Embassy in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, as well as from various universities in Bishkek.
Kyrgyzstan, population just under 6 million, is a former Soviet Republic in Central Asia. Kyrgyzstan is the only democracy in the region and shares borders with Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and China. The capital city is Bishkek with a population of about 1 million. Primary languages include Kyrgyz, Russian, and Uzbek, among others. Approximately 80 percent of Kyrgyz citizens are Muslims; other religious groups include Russian Orthodox.
