Staley School hosts leaders in residence on campus this week

Submitted by Theo Stavropoulos

As part of the annual alumni and friends gathering, Spirit of Leadership, the Staley School of Leadership Studies will host two leaders in residence Sept. 12-16. Recipients of the Michael C. Holen Leader-in-Residence Award, these two outstanding individuals, Shante and Silvia Moore, bring a K-State — and global — connection to the students and faculty of Kansas State University.

Shante Moore received his undergraduate degree in political science from K-State in 1996 and his graduate degree from Georgetown University's Master of Science in Foreign Service Program in 2000. He currently works for the U.S. Department of State and is responsible for advancing U.S. Open Skies policy and negotiating bilateral and multilateral Open Skies agreements and other civil aviation agreements. He was a recipient of both the Truman and Fulbright scholarships and was an active member of the K-State community in his time on campus, including his participation in the International Service Teams program.

Silvia Diaz de Moore is originally from Paraguay and received a public notary degree and a law degree from the Technical University of Marketing and Development in Paraguay and a Master of United States Law degree from the University of Baltimore. Silvia is a naturalized U.S. citizen and has more than 15 years of pro bono experience and volunteer service in supporting nonprofit organizations and communities focused on the visibility and human rights of people of African descent, women and children in Paraguay and throughout Latin America.

During the week, the Moores will meet with students through visits to several leadership studies classes, as well as visiting with student organizations including Wildcats for International Development, Rotaract and the Paraguayan Student Association. Beyond campus, they will be engaged also with the community as guest speakers at Rotary and with Kansas Paraguayan Partners. To end their visit, the Moores will address a group of Staley School alumni and friends on Friday, Sept. 16, at the Spirit of Leadership to share a message and a reflection on their visit.

The Staley School is honored to host these two exceptional leaders as recipients of the 2016 Michael C. Holen Leader in Residence Award and looks forward to a week of engagement with students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends of Kansas State University.
