K-State student geographers active at annual conference of the Association of American Geographers

Several geography students participated in the annual Association of American Geographers conference in New York City, Feb 24-28. Abstracts and additional session information are available here.
Paper presentations by students and other conference activities included:
Ryan Bergstrom, graduate student in geography, and Lisa Harrington, professor of geography, presented "A Transition toward Sustainability: Challenges in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem."
Brandon Weihs, doctoral student in geography; William Butler, master's student in geography; and Richard Marston, university distinguished professor and head of the department of geography, presented "Cross-Valley Profiles and Mass Movement Hazards in Deglaciated Canyons."
Lisa Tabor, doctoral student in curriculum and instruction; John A. Harrington Jr., professor of geography, and a K-State geography alumni presented "Stakeholder Adaptation to Climatic Change in Kansas: What Have We Learned?"
Jeremy Aber, doctoral student in geography, presented "Mapping Microaggressions."
Melinda Daniels, associate professor of geography, and Katie H. Costigan, doctoral student in geography, presented "Damming the Prairie: Human Alteration of Great Plains River Regimes."
James Wells, doctoral student and graduate research assistant in geography, presented "Reflections upon Repeat Photography: a Methodological Discussion."
Gina Thornburg, doctoral student in geography, presented "Bonanza – or Bust – on the Land? Effects of Farm-to-School Program Participation on Farmers and Their Communities in Oklahoma." Thornburg also was organizer of sessions I-IV of Navigating the Geographies of Food: People, Place, Culture and Power, serving as chair of session IV She also was co-organizer and leader of the field trip to Queens County Farm Museum.
Bryce Marston, doctoral student in geography, and colleagues presented "Downstream effects of reservoir storage and early high-flow release on a high-altitude meadow stream on the Medicine Bow National Forest, Wyoming."
Tyra A Olstad, doctoral student in geography, presented "Artists and Residence: Developing a Sense of Place."
Lianling Su, master's student in geography, presented "Cross-Border Marriage Migration of Vietnamese Women to China."
Chuyuan Wang, master's student in geography, and Marcellus M. Caldas, assistant professor of geography, presented "Fragment Patterns and Land Reform Settlements: Evidence from the Transamazon Highway and Southern Pará."
Brandon H. Haddock, doctoral student in geography, presented "On the Edge of Town: Rural place identity and multi-dimensional interpretation."
