Applications, nominations sought in internal search for associate provost for international programs

Kansas State University is conducting an internal search for the position of associate provost for international programs and invites applications and nominations. 

The office of international programs provides leadership by strengthening communication and coordination among Kansas State University's various international programs to achieve identified strategic goals and serves as a focal point for international relations. Areas reporting to the office of international programs are the English language program, international admissions and recruiting, international research and faculty collaboration, international student and scholar services and study abroad. The associate provost for international programs reports to the provost and is a member of the provost’s staff.

The associate provost for international programs is responsible for leadership and support to

  1. develop and implement K-State’s international strategic vision and be a strong advocate for all international dimensions of the university;
  2. seek to expand international opportunities for faculty, students and academic programs;
  3. work collaboratively with the university to recruit international undergraduate students;
  4. work with the K-State Graduate School and academic departments to recruit international graduate students;
  5. develop and enhance effective international alumni networks;
  6. identify and cultivate external funding to support international programs, activities and initiatives;
  7. communicate and collaborate closely with faculty to enhance international initiatives both on and off campus; and
  8. provide support to academic programs for integrating the international experience into curricular development. Additional information about the activities supported by the office of the associate provost for international programs can be found online.

Applicants should possess an earned doctorate or terminal degree and have a documented record of academic success — tenure is negotiable — have extensive and diverse international experience gained through studying, working or living abroad and must have significant demonstrated administrative and supervisory skills and responsible financial management skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential. Second language competency is desirable. The applicant must be committed to the principles of equal opportunity and affirmative action and have demonstrated expertise in bringing about compromise and consensus among diverse groups.  The successful candidate will value diversity in all its dimensions, and consider different cultural perspectives in solving problems in this area.

Applications should include a letter expressing interest in the position; a curriculum vita; the names, addresses, telephone numbers, and email addresses of at least three references who have first-hand knowledge of the applicant's career and administrative experience; and a one-page philosophy statement on international activities and their role in the university’s mission.
